Cod Army net Tigers cup win

Goals in each half from David Ball and substitute Jon Parkin extinguished Gloucester City's FA Cup hopes for another year and sent Fleetwood through to the next round with a 2-0 win.

Ball's low effort from outside the area after 11 minutes looked relatively tame but beat City goalkeeper Mike Green, who may have been unsighted.

Town should have doubled their lead after 23 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Tigers' right-back Michael Green tripped Ball. But Steven Schumacher, who scored a hat-trick against Newport last weekend, struck the post with his spot-kick.

Gloucester fought back as the first half wore on, their best effort coming from Tyler Weir who burst into the box and forced a good save from Scott Davies on the half hour.

City striker Darren Edwards also went close for the home side after the break when he smacked the ball over the crossbar from 12 yards out out after good work from Joe Parker.

Fleetwood forward Antoni Sarcevic missed a good chance with the goal gaping after a great cross from Jeff Hughes.

Parkin wrapped up the win with just six minutes left. With Gloucester pushing for the equaliser, Stewart Murdoch sent the veteran clear and he rounded 'keeper Green before planting a simple effort into the net.
