Fleetwood finish Walsall's winning home run

Cian Bolger's bullet header kept Fleetwood in second spot in League One as they ended Walsall's run of six straight home wins with a 1-0 victory.

Uwe Rosler's men had seen an 18-game unbeaten run ended by automatic promotion rivals Bolton on Saturday but bounced back thanks to defender Bolger's fifth league goal of the season.

The winning goal came in the 22nd minute as Bolger met Cameron Brannagan's deep corner with a powerful header that gave Walsall goalkeeper Neil Etheridge no chance.

Walsall almost levelled from another corner two minutes later but Scott Laird lashed across the face of goal and wide.

Fleetwood were on top, though, and Etheridge produced a fine reaction save to stop Brannagan doubling their lead on 27 minutes.

They came close again on the stroke of half-time, Godswill Ekpolo nodding onnto the bar from six yards and Kyle Dempsey's follow-up header cleared off the line by Walsall skipper Adam Chambers.

Fleetwood could have stretched their lead in the second half as Walsall offered little but Ashley Hunter fizzed a 35-yard half-volley inches over and saw a 20-yard strike foiled by Etheridge.
